Allentown Symphony New Music Chamber Concert #1 - Rodale Room, 3rd Floor of Miller Symphony Hall
Tuesday, October 25, 2022, 7:00 pm
Join us for an intimate evening of new music written for chamber ensembles by area faculty members of the Composer Consortium, and student and area composers. Scored for any combination of flute, violin, cello, and piano, the concert is a dream of creative realization for the composers. Selected pieces are curated by the ASO Composer in Resident, Chris Rogerson.
Compositions written by Consortium members Dr. Scott Watson and Pete Deshler, students Ryan Anderson and Amal Shokr, and area composers Pierre Bohemond, Charles Peck, and Ava Bloomfield are joined by pieces written by Chris Rogerson, Aaron Kernis, and Jennifer Higdon.
The concert takes place in the Rodale Community Room; 3rd floor of Miller Symphony Hall.
Audiences may find that listening to new music performed for the first time an exciting moment. Since our brains cannot rely on memory, we dive into a sea of sounds without a map of where we are headed. And when we listen intently, we delight in the nuances and delicacies of a well turned phrase, or maybe feel sustained tension in drawn out harmonies that once finally resolve, our body relaxes with the music.
To borrow a phrase from Forrest Gump, new music is like a box of chocolates. You never know what you're going to get.
Chamber Music Concerts are free to students with valid ID.
