New Chamber Music Concert Spring 2024
Tuesday, March 26, 2024, 7:00 pm
Program juried by the ASO Composer in Residence, Clarice Assad. New music written for instrumental combinations of the traditional string quartet and classical guitar. The concert will be presented at the Lehigh Valley Charter High School for the Arts.
Program
Clarice Assad’s work MOSAIC VARIATIONS for string quartet and guitar is a reimagining of the original work co-created with more than 50 students from the Austin Classical Guitar program in 2021.
Additionally, Jessie Montgomery’s STRUM was originally written for the Providence String Quartet and guests of Community MusicWorks Players, then arranged for string quartet in 2008 with several small revisions. In 2012 the piece underwent its final revisions with a rewrite of both the introduction and the ending for the Catalyst Quartet in a performance celebrating the 15th annual Sphinx Competition.
The rest of the program features works by area composers: Larry Lipkis (Moravian University faculty), Tom Maher (LV Charter HS for the Arts faculty), Pierre Bohemond (Easton, PA), Howard Buss (Emmaus, PA), Keith Donaghue (Pennsauken, NJ), Zach Gulaboff Davis (Jersey City, NJ), Michael Iorio (Laffin, PA), Kevin Kiernan (Allentown, PA), and a special encore by 4th grade El Sistema Lehigh Valley student, Anthony Mora Lopez.
