The Phantom of the Opera 1925 Silent Film + Live Music
Saturday, August 18, 2018, 7:00 pm
The original 1925 silent film featuring Lon Chaney on the Hall’s large screen with live music provided by The Allentown Band. This spectacle picture was inspired when Carl Laemmle, the then president of Universal Pictures, took a vacation to Paris. Meeting author Gaston Leroux, who was working in the French film industry, Laemmle mentioned to Leroux that he admired the Paris Opera House. Leroux presented Laemmle with a copy of his 1910 novel The Phantom of the Opera. Chaney's appearance as the Phantom has been said to be the most accurate depiction of the title character based on the novel’s description.
