Rossini’s Il Barbiere di Siviglia
Saturday, June 14, 2025, 12:55 pm
Following her critically acclaimed performance in Bizet’s Carmen (2024), mezzo-soprano Aigul Akhmetshina returns to the Met to headline Bartlett Sher’s madcap production of Rossini’s effervescent comedy as the feisty heroine Rosina.
The cast also includes high-flying tenor Jack Swanson, in his Met debut, as Rosina’s secret beloved, Count Almaviva. Baritone Andrey Zhilikhovsky stars as Figaro, the titular barber of Seville, with bass-baritone Peter Kálmán as Dr. Bartolo and bass Alexander Vinogradov as Don Basilio rounding out the principal cast. Giacomo Sagripanti conducts.
Regarded as perhaps the greatest comedy in all of opera, Rossini’s Il Barbiere di Siviglia features solos of astounding speed in tongue- twisting patter forms, especially the title role’s well-known Act I showstopper, “Largo al factotum.”
