March 2025 New Chamber Music Concert

We’re inviting Lehigh Valley-based composers who have submitted their pieces to the Symphony over the past five years to join us for this unique and collaborative event!

This very SPECIAL PROJECT will showcase the intersection of Latin Jazz and Classical composition:

• Open to anyone in the Lehigh Valley region who has submitted a composition to us in the past who is interested in learning more about writing Jazz/Classical style music. 
• Apply for consideration: simply express your interest by applying for the program.

Our Composer-In-Residence, Clarice Assad, will select approximately 15-20 people to participate. All composers selected would write a 3-minute piece combining Latin Jazz Trio (Piano/Bass/Drums) with String Quartet. All pieces will be performed at the concert on March 25th, 2025. Clarice will guide the participants and give instruction and “best practices” for composing jazz. These will be done by Zoom calls starting the week of November 18, with additional calls in December and January.

NEXT STEPS

• Please submit a sample of your work written within the last two years. The piece can be written for any instrumentation; please include a PDF copy of the score and an audio file (mp3). This is NOT the piece that will be performed in March. It is simply representative of your work.
• Each person selected will commit to writing a piece (duration of 3 minutes or less) for jazz combo and string quartet instrumentation to be performed on Tuesday, March 25.
• Participating composers must be available for the following rehearsal dates:
  March 24, 2025 7 – 10 pm for dress rehearsal
  March 25, 2025 7 -9 pm for concert

Composers that are not available for these dates should not apply.  Attendance at these is required for participation.

►Please note: These Zoom calls are open to all applicants who want to learn about jazz composition, even if you were not selected to write a piece for the upcoming concert. Everyone is welcome to learn!
