FAQs
This is my first time at Miller Symphony Hall. What can I expect from the show?
To nurture the ultimate experience for all patrons, a quiet, focused environment needs to be preserved. To guarantee that our patrons as well as our performers enjoy the full benefits of the performance, we request that once a performance has started, that you refrain from talking, whispering, singing, humming, or moving personal belongings. Patrons are also asked to refrain from entering and exiting the hall while a performance is in progress. If you must leave your seat, please proceed quickly and quietly to the nearest door, or ask the nearest usher for assistance.
Performance length varies, but a typical orchestra concert runs a little over two hours with one intermission. Some individual pieces may last an hour or more. Please applaud only at the close of a full piece of music. The program page, which lists individual movements of longer compositions, and the program notes can help you to follow the orchestra’s progress through each piece and determine the appropriate moments to applaud. When in doubt, wait until other audience members start to applaud!
What time can I arrive?
Miller Symphony Hall’s hours of operations are Monday – Friday from 10am-5pm and Saturdays from 12pm-5pm. We are also open 2 hours before each performance. Please plan to arrive at least 30 minutes before your scheduled performance to allow ample time to use the facilities, locate your seats, and settle in. The theatre will be open for seating approximately 30-45 minutes prior to the curtain speech.
Can I still sit in my seat if I show up late?
In consideration of the comfort and listening pleasure of the audience, patrons who arrive after the performance begins will be asked by the ushers to wait in the outer lobby and will be escorted into the auditorium at an appropriate time. No one will be permitted to enter the hall while the orchestra is performing.
I have limited mobility/am physically disabled. Can I still attend?
Yes! Miller Symphony Hall is accessible to all physically disabled persons. Disabled parking is available before and during Allentown Symphony Orchestra Classical and Pops Concerts. Parking spaces are located on both sides of Sixth Street near Miller Symphony Hall. This parking is complementary and available first-come, first-served to anyone displaying handicapped plates and placards. It is designated with signage as “Handicapped Parking Only.”
Patrons who had purchased non-accessible seating and are now in need of accessible seating at the time of an event are directed to call the Box Office at 610-432-6715 or visit us in person Monday – Friday from 10 AM – 5 PM and Saturday from 12 PM – 5 PM. Accessible seating is distributed on a first-come, first-served basis.
How old do you have to be to attend a show at Miller Symphony Hall?
Our recommended minimum age to attend any Allentown Symphony concert is five (5) years old. Please note that every person attending the concert, regardless of age, must have a ticket to enter the concert hall. Performance length varies, but a typical orchestra concert runs a little over two hours with one intermission. Some individual pieces may last an hour or more. Children should be accustomed to sitting quietly and attentively for this amount of time. The Allentown Symphony Association reserves the right to remove any individuals who are disrupting fellow patrons or the concert setting.
What should I wear?
Whatever makes you comfortable and, most importantly, allows you to open yourself up to the music. Remember, this is YOUR experience, and we want you to have an AWESOME one!
What happens if there’s severe weather the day of the concert?
The show must go on! As long as the artist can make it to the theatre, the performance will go on. There are no refunds or exchanges because of bad weather. If, however, the City of Allentown declares a State of Emergency due to severe weather, the concert will be postponed to a later date. Your tickets will be honored at the rescheduled concert.
If the status of the show does change, an announcement will be posted on the home page of our website, on our Facebook page, and through an email blast.
