Mozart’s Symphony No. 40

Diane Wittry, Conductor
Allentown Symphony Chorus | Eduardo Azzati, Chorus Master

This delightful program features Mozart’s Symphony No. 40, one of the most well-known and frequently performed symphonies ever written. The work reveals Mozart at his most dramatic, moving with striking clarity from tension to lyric release. The concert also includes the Overture (Sinfonia) in C Major by Marianna Martines, an overlooked female composer and a contemporary of both Mozart and Haydn. She was a pioneering figure of the Classical era and the composer of the first known symphony written by a woman.  Finally, the Allentown Symphony Chorus joins the Orchestra for Morten Lauridsen’s Lux Aeterna, a luminous and meditative choral work.
