Chorus Auditions
The Allentown Symphony Chorus is a professional level chorus that will be featured at least once a year with the Allentown Symphony Orchestra. This chorus is designed to not compete with other Lehigh Valley choruses, and will only rehearse eight weeks prior to this year’s featured concert. The Allentown Symphony Chorus will be comprised of approximately 60+ voices. There will be special auditions for paid Section Leaders and Assistant Section Leaders. There will also be auditions for positions in a Scholarship Quartet, which will be open to local college students upon teacher recommendation.
This season, the chorus will be singing two concerts. The first will be Saturday, April 10 & Sunday, April 11, 2027 with the Allentown Symphony Orchestra performing Lauridsen’s Lux Aeterna. The second will be Saturday, May 22, & Sunday, May 23, 2027 with the Allentown Symphony Orchestra performing Holst’s The Planets.
All singers interested in becoming part of the ASC must take part in a short audition, which includes singing the provided excerpt and sight reading. Choral singers must re-audition every 3 seasons. There are special auditions for paid Section Leaders and Assistant Section Leaders. Honorarium positions for a Scholarship Quartet will be available to local college students majoring in a vocal music degree with a teacher recommendation. Any new singers auditioning for an honorarium position must also prepare a solo piece for their audition. The solo should be an aria or art song of five minutes or less.

Instructions to use the practice tracks:
If desired, and for learning purposes, the playback speed can be adjusted by using the cursor on the left of the page. The target speed for the audition will be at 100%, which is the tempi indicated on the score for the audition excerpt.
- Click on the link to open the website.
- Scroll down to #5 “Agnus Dei-Lux aeterna”
- Click on the desired voice part (Soprano 1, Soprano 2, Alto 1, Alto 2, Tenor, Bass)
- Move the cursor on the white field to the 4-minute timestamp; that’s where the audition excerpt starts. It ends at the 6:28-minute mark
- Use the “balance” cursor on the right of the page to hear more or less of the chosen part. Moving it to the right makes the chosen part more predominant; moving it to the left makes the chosen part less predominant. When the cursor is set at the center “stereo,” the chosen part will be heard somewhat in the foreground, while the other parts appear in the background.
REHEARSALS
Thursday evenings from 7-9:30pm with additional weekday rehearsals the week leading up to the performances. For a complete rehearsal and performance schedule, click here. For any questions, please email Carole Burkhardt, Chorus Manager, at chorus@allentownsymphony.org.
