Three-time Emmy-nominated pianist and composer Steve Sandberg fuses classical, Latin, Brazilian, and jazz traditions with the thrill of spontaneous improvisation.
A Jazz Upstairs favorite, Steve returns this year with acclaimed German violinist Gregor Huebner. A Grammy-nominated violinist and composer, Huebner brings an impressive background in jazz and contemporary classical music, including a longstanding collaboration with jazz pianist Richie Beirach and his work with the groundbreaking Sirius Quartet. He has performed at Carnegie Hall, the Apollo Theater, the Hollywood Bowl, and the Montreux Jazz Festival, and received the Grand Prize in the New York Philharmonic’s New World Composers Competition. His expressive playing and inventive improvisation bring a fresh dimension to the quartet’s sound.
Steve’s expansive career includes touring with David Byrne, Bebel Gilberto, and Rubén Blades, as well as conducting and arranging for Broadway. He also served as lead composer and musical director for Nickelodeon’s Dora the Explorer and Go, Diego, Go!
